Location
Before I had a pretty good idea on the relative location of New Delhi, but I didn't know anything about absolute location or climate. I learned the coordinate points of my city and learned that New Delhi has a pretty tropical climate, but that they are having a lot of problems with the climate changing because of the population.
Place
I went into this project knowing absolutely nothing about the human and physical characteristics of India. But from doing my research I learned all about the physical characteristics, living conditions, religion, education, languages, food, and fashion of New Delhi. From reading about this, I have realized how diverse, colorful, and passionate about their culture.
Human Environment Interaction
I had heard before about the harsh conditions in New Delhi, and how polluted the air is. But I learned that the air pollution is actually 60 times higher than the level that is considered safe, and most people have respiratory problems. They adapt to their environment by using the lush soil to plant crops. It depends on where you live in India, because it is so diverse geographically, on what resources you use and items you create.
Movement
I kind of had an idea on the transportation in India before I did this project, I didn't think the would have anything fancy. I was right about that part, but I also learned that there's more people moving out of India than there are people moving in. And I also learned that there are not a lot of pull factors to move to New Delhi. It isn't a very desirable place to live, and it doesn't have a lot of advanced technology for moving around.
Region
This is the theme I knew the least about. I didn't know if the citizens farmed or not, what resources they had and how they used them, and what land forms broke up the country/city. What I learned is that New Delhi (and most of India) has great soil for planting crops, so there are a lot of farmers. In addition, a lot of Uranium comes out of New Delhi. And also India has practically any land form you can think of!
Overall
New Delhi, and India overall, is a very diverse and cultural place. It shows in the country's geography, religion, ethnicity, food, and even fashion! From this project I learned that India may not be as fortunate or clean as most other places, but they sure hold their own and celebrate their beautiful country. Personally, it makes me want to go over and visit India, see and experience all the things this country and city has to offer.
